This session has a particular focus on technical and vocational qualifications. It has been designed to give those dealing with such international qualifications a better understanding of how they compare to UK qualifications and standards, and national and regional frameworks internationally. The emphasis will vary depending on the delivery location and the needs of the audience.
The session will help delegates read and understand TVET education and training documents and therefore be able to effectively evaluate them. The case studies used will include documents in the original language as well as translations into English. Evaluation methodologies will be discussed. Different education systems will be explored, with particular reference to systems, frameworks, and standards for technical and vocational education and training. Qualification frameworks and their development and significance will be considered, and also the evaluation of qualifications that are not aligned to frameworks.
This course is recommended for university and college staff involved with entry to undergraduate and postgraduate courses, for employers and employer groups, for professional and skills bodies, for careers/employability/refugee advisers, and for professional credential evaluators, in the UK or internationally. The balance and emphasis of the content can be adjusted, depending on location, and if the training group has particular requirements.
The key objectives of the training are to:
- Understand and apply methodologies of credential evaluation
- Understand qualification frameworks and systems of occupational standards, and their significance
- Understand and effectively use our qualifications data and education systems data
- Understand recognition issues relating to TVET qualifications
- In international contexts, understand and effectively apply techniques of triangulation
- All the above in relation to and in the context of TVET qualifications
Delegates will receive a training manual in either print or electronic form to support the interactive training session. The databases will be used and referred to.
