The recognition status of an institution is an essential consideration in the evaluation of qualifications. This project was therefore commissioned to address an important and prevalent issue: a lack of information on historical names and status of institutions. In practice, this lack of reliable information both hinders the work of credential evaluators and can slow graduate mobility in Europe and beyond.
To help solve this, the European HEI Data Record Project saw the design and creation of a database of recognised HEIs in 25 European countries, providing clear and comprehensive details of name changes or variations, changes in stauts and any associated key dates. Recognising the database's value as a credential evaluation tool, a further project to extend the database was commissioned the following year.
